In what way does the ASHWAS report touch the GP members and citizens? –
- There is excitement that the GP had its own report. Most people want to have a look at it.
- While citizens may know they are individually facing problems, say in water shortage, ASHWAS report gives them a perspective of how many of them are facing similar problems. That as high as x% people face the problem makes it visible and creates demand for action.
- ASHWAS findings most discussed were those which were related to sanitation (particularly OD % due to the focus by TSC and NGP) and quality. Regarding quality, one can some credit that the issue is now becoming known to a population which was blissfully unaware to a large extent! This in turn is creating demand for usage of quality testing kits. In many GPs, on our request the kit was dusted and taken out of the store room, mostly unopened.
- Interestingly, aspects related to sustainability (dependence on ground water) and equity were not discussed until provoked. They take low priority as against immediate issues on breakdowns and unpaid salaries to GP staff. While people could not relate to GP comparative charts the ASHWAS report, they took lot of interest in case best practices were shared
- On the fun side, the snakes and ladder game seemed as popular among adults as with the kids!
