Pani Thiye Panjo [PTP], loosely translated as “Let’s this water be ours!” is a multi institutional programme to address water scarcity through local source augmentation in 115 villages of Abdasa taluka in Kachchh district in Gujarat. The objective was to develop local water sources in the village and let the village institutions [paani samiti-embedded in the panchayat] manage, protect and ensure good quality water to all their citizens.
The immediate aim is to ensure adequate, safe drinking water access to 115 villages (of the 166 villages in the taluka) through development of sustainable water resources at village level over a period of 5 years. This will ideally transform local sources as primary ones with the external sources as backup, unlike the present State initiated model. The programme is embedded in a collaborative institutional framework that pools in financial resources from the State and Private Institutions and decentralized knowledge management frameworks from civil society.
