Watsan intervention in Karnataka's flood affected villages


Heavy and continuous downpour in many parts of Karnataka during end September and early October 2009 resulted in severe damage to property and loss to human life and livestock. The death toll in Karnataka has been put at 192 and as many as 17.8 million people were affected by the floods. Over 2 lakh homes were collapsed or damaged. It is for the first time in 60 years that perennially drought-hit districts of north Karnataka experienced the fury of floods at this scale. The villages Nagwad and Lingdalli in Bijapur district, identified for this project, are among one of the worst affected by the recent heavy rains in the region.
