Snapshots from a campaign spearheaded by Himalaya Seva Sangh (HSS)-a Gandhian orgnainsation working with communities in Uttarakhand. Arghyam had been extending financial support to HSS since 2007 to carry out water conservation and rejuvenation of traditional sources in Himalayan regions. The programme is in its second phase now and continues to engage with the local community in bringing abpout change. HSS partners with six civil society organisations, and works in around 36 villages in about 10 districts of Uttrakhand. The campaign strategy involves software (training programs, workshops, campaigns and exchange programs) and hardware (revival of chaal-a traditional water harvesting system, other water harvesting structures, installation of filters for safe drinking water etc). The direct beneficiaries are around 2000 households - roughly 12,000 people.
